Deep massage performed by skilled hands to create the conditions for the body’s return to optimal health after injury. Remedial massage is used to treat strains, sprains, broken bones, bruising and any injury where the skin is intact. Remedial or deep tissue massage removes blockages, damaged cells, scar tissue and adhesions left after injury speeding up recovery and encouraging more complete healing. This type of massage is also used for conditions created by lifestyle, for example, repetitive strain injury and back pain.
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fibre) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee, over a period of eight weeks.
Designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the surface of the top muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes) and patients who have sustained physical injury.
I booked a sports massage with Just Physio in the peak of my marathon training block when my calves and hamstrings were constantly tight. Because Justin is a qualified physiotherapist, he didn't just apply random pressure—he understood the exact mechanics of where I was carrying strain and tailored the deep tissue work perfectly. My legs felt completely refreshed for race day, and having a session right after the event cut my recovery time in half.
